“Carla” is a ressource saving and simple upcycling project- plus it is really casual or chic, depending on your material choice and your styling.
For this dress, we’ll change an old men’s shirt into a cool dress, in combination with a fabric which you might already have at home! We’ll work with something which is already here and create something new out of it. Apart from being very eco friendly we’ll also take advantage of the fact that the shirt already comes with some details which we don’t have to sew- such as the collar and the placket with the buttons.
Of course a lot of pattern and colour combinations are possible. I’m really into the combo stripes with african waxprint. But also the check with the african print is so nice! Just look through your fabric stash and visit your local thrift shop with this inspiration, I’m sure you’ll find a combination that you love.
With the pattern download you’ll not only get a written instruction, but a whole sewing video tutorial! On my YouTube channel Koba.Siani I show you step-by-step how the gorgeous “Carla” is made. You can also have a look on the video in advance to decide whether this project is suitable for you. In my channel I’ll also release free tutorials and patterns, so it’s worth a subscription!
Here is the link to the video:
The pattern is made in one size and can be downloaded here after the purchase in DINA4 and DINA1. Printing it out on US letter size should also be possible. In the video and the written sewing instruction I explain how to adapt the skirt pattern to your individual size. That is necessary as all your shirts will have a different width.
Sewing level: advanced beginners.
